Harelbeke New British Cemetery is a concentration cemetery started after the Armistice with bodies brought in from the surrounding area so there is no way now of telling where Frank died, or how. The 10th November seems to be the accepted last day of the 2nd Battle of Passchendael. Records show Frank died on 10th, which tends to mean of wounds or illness. The 8th Battalion were the Reserve battalion, disbanded and amalgamated into the 9th Norfolks in 1918. The 8th Battalion suffered only 6 deaths that entire week, 4 buried in scattered cemeteries around Ypres and 2 on the Tyne Cot Memorial. |
